The Ronald McDonald House has been fortunate enough to be selected as a charity of choice for the Infiniti Challenge. Help secure the most votes and the Ronald McDonald House of Central Ohio will be awarded $100,000!

Right now RMHC is trailing the “team up north” by a slim margin. This is a micro volunteering opportunity and is very simple. All you need to do is text CoachMatta (one word) to 90210 or visit http://promo.espn.go.com/espn/contests/infiniti/2012/ and vote for Coach Matta. It is that simple.

COLUMBUS, Ohio, May 16, 2011 – Robbie Banks, Young Professionals Manager, Columbus Chamber, has been voted by the Young Professionals of Columbus (YPC) Board of Directors as the unanimous choice for this year's Distinguished Citizen Award.

YPC serves the Columbus community by connecting its members with the pulse of the city while developing and advancing the potential of its members. That’s why YPC is pleased to introduce the Distinguished Citizen Award to recognize the contributions of our vital community leaders.

The Distinguished Citizen Award is awarded annually by YPC to a person who has demonstrated extraordinary involvement in the community and inspires others to make Columbus a better place. This can be any member of the central Ohio community: a neighbor, co-worker, friend, or business leader.

To say Robbie Banks has been a tremendous asset to the YP community in her four years of service as the Chamber’s YP manager would be putting her legacy lightly. She constantly goes above and beyond in her day job, committing her time and effort in a way no one else can. She is reliable in everything she does, thorough, friendly, knowledgeable, bright, intelligent, collaborative, and the perfect representative of YPs in Columbus.

She has successfully created a network of YPs and YP organizations and fostered a cooperative environment for all YP groups in Columbus. With all of these organizations working independently, it is monumental to create a certain level of continuity among them, resulting in productive partnerships and a better city for young professionals as a whole.

On top of it all, she lives and breathes Columbus unlike anyone else. And she has gone leaps and bounds to make it a better place to be.

The YPC Board is proud to recognize Robbie at the YPC annual meeting for her hard work and dedication on May 25, at 6 p.m. at the Gateway Film Center. The event is open to anyone who would like to attend.

Board Member, Heath Hughes, Makes the Forty Under 40 List

We don't want to sound like we're bragging, but we will anyway: Heath Hughes (YPC board member) is being honored next month as one of Columbus Business First's Forty Under 40. This annual award recognizes the "up-and-comers to be watched for their business, professional and community contributions." (CBF) Despite some pretty tough competition (hundreds of nominations this year), Heath joins a group that includes past winners such as Mayor Michael Coleman, Andrea Cambern, Cameron Mitchell, Mary Jo Hudson, and other notable figures in our community. This is just another example of how YPC recruits only the top talent in Columbus to sit on its Board of Directors.

In With the New: Young Professionals of Columbus Launches Refreshed Brand and Web Site

Young Professionals of Columbus (YPC) has unveiled a new look and feel to the organization that better reflects its core mission of personal and professional development and civic engagement of its members.

YPC’s makeover includes a total refresh of YPColumbus.org as well as a new logo, giving the organization a recharged brand identity. All of this is aimed to better define YPC’s niche within the city’s fabric, and to further spread the organization’s message across the Columbus community.

Through research and member surveys, YPC's 15-person Board of Directors and its Marketing & Communications Committee assessed the organization's past brand and web presence. The resulting information helped YPC to develop a refreshed look that better communicates the organization's identity and further clarifies the ideals that differentiate YPC from other young professional organizations. These ideals are reflective of the organization at large and are depicted with the new logo and refreshed web-site:

Connectivity: YPC is focused on fostering a strong, well-connected YP community in Columbus
Professional Development: This is the hallmark of YPC
Community: Civic involvement is critical to the YPC mission
Conversation: YPC encourages open dialogue and represents the YP voice in Columbus
Distinction: The mission of YPC is development, which is what differentiates it from other YP groups

New features of YPColumbus.org include:

An updated home page prominently featuring upcoming events, member benefits and other activities
Better online discussions through a news feed, event blog and feeds from Twitter directly to the site
“Members-only” features such as an RSS feed of exclusive discounts and promotions, a job board and a directory of current YPC members

Dear YPC Members,

At the last Connect with Columbus, I gave a brief talk about the upcoming YPC Board of Directors' elections. Currently, elections are scheduled to be held at the YPC Annual Meeting on May 25, 2011. On March 21, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., I invite you to attend the "Meet the Board" event to be held at the Gateway Film Center, 1550 North High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43201. The event is a great way to interact with the current board and ask questions you may have about what it takes to serve.

On April 10, 2011, nominations for candidates will open and, they will close on May 4, 2011. To be considered eligible for candidacy, you must be a member in good standing with YPC at the time of nomination. I look forward to seeing everyone at "Meet the Board" and reviewing all nominations. Civic Engagement Chair Announced

Congratulations to Coby Williams, who has been selected as the new Chair of the Civic Engagement Committee! He is the Outreach Coordinator for Progress Ohio and a member of the Create Columbus Commission, with a background in public affairs and policy. We are very excited to have him on the YPC team and look forward to his plans for the future.
